EU Timeshuttle

KUK Filmproduktion GmbH produced the 4-minute EU Timeshuttle motion ride film for the European Union Pavilion in Hannover at EXPO 2000.

When you visit the pavilion of the European Union at EXPO 2000, you will be able to go on a trip through time covering five decades of European history in the course of the journey.
The journey through time begins with a ride on a Vespa scooter in Italy in the 50’s. A young couple is seen driving along a winding coastal road and the young man’s driving style does its part to convey the film’s spectacular movements to the audience as they speed along the road.
In the next coastal town, the couple enters a movie theatre, where they watch a filmed report on the signing of the “Rome Treaties”, one of the key milestones in the history of the EU. Drawn into the projector’s beam, we actually seem to be absorbed into the interior of the film projector.
We travel through a maze of film strips, showing scenes of the next decade, the 60’s.
We continue travelling through the decades as we fly through various time tunnels in which well-known pictures remind us of the most significant social, political and economical events of each era. These time tunnels manage to replicate the look of the times – the shrill, garish 70’s, the neon lit 80’s and the cyberspace design of the 90’s.
Information and entertainment are balanced carefully during this journey. Between time tunnels, the visitors will experience exciting Motion-Ride-effects in typical real scenes set in the time through which the journey is taking them. Besides the ride on the scooter, there will be a flight from the top of the Eiffel Tower as well as a harrowing ride on BMX bikes through the city of Barcelona in the 80’s.
Internet and Cyberspace are the themes defining the aesthetics of the last Timetunnel which represent the 90’s.
This is the time tunnel which allows the viewer not only a look into the future, but, in the final shot, a view of Europe as seen from outer space.
